Retenna vs ChatGPT: which should run your outfits, meals, training and week?

ChatGPT is the AI most people already use, and it’s brilliant at answering, writing and researching. Here’s what it remembers, schedules, connects to and costs today, and what changes when every part of your life has its own expert who knows you and plans ahead.

ChatGPT changes often. Facts come from OpenAI’s own help pages, documentation and App Store listing, checked on 25 October 2026, and every claim links to its source. Prices are OpenAI’s US prices. Retenna is our product and isn’t out yet: where we describe it, it’s what it’s built to do, and its examples show how it works, not test results.

The short answer

Use Retenna for your life and ChatGPT for everything beyond it. ChatGPT is a general-purpose chat: it answers, writes, researches and talks things through, and it can remember what you’ve told it. Retenna is a complete lifestyle app: an expert and a full space for each part of your life, all sharing one living model of you, planning together and getting things ready before you ask. It runs its own AI, built deeper for everyday life, so it answers your everyday questions already knowing you, while ChatGPT stays useful for broader questions, work and research.

ChatGPT is the AI most people have already tried, and with good reason. It’s available now, it’s free to start, and it’s good at almost anything you can put into words: answering questions, explaining, writing and researching, right up to a buyer’s guide for a bigger purchase with its shopping research. You can type, add a photo or talk to it, with limited voice on the free plan. Here’s what it does today to get to know you, and to help when you’re not asking.

MemoryWith Memory on, ChatGPT keeps saved memories, the details you ask it to remember, and can draw on your past chats too. Ask “What do you remember about me?” to see what it holds, delete anything in settings, or use a Temporary Chat when you don’t want it to remember. Below an answer, Sources can show which memories or past chats shaped it.

ProjectsProjects group related chats with their own files and instructions, so a training or meal-ideas project keeps its context. Even the free plan has them, with up to 5 files per project (25 on Go and Plus, 40 on Pro), and a project can keep its memory to itself or be shared with other people.

Scheduled tasksAsk ChatGPT to do something later or on repeat, such as a reminder or a regular update, and it runs as a scheduled task. You can have 3 active on Free and Go, 5 on Plus and 15 on Pro. Free tasks run at most once a day, and paid ones up to every hour. On Plus and Pro, a task can also start when a new Gmail message arrives.

ChatGPT Work, which replaced agent modeOpenAI has retired ChatGPT agent. Longer jobs now go to ChatGPT Work, included on Free, Go, Plus and Pro. It uses your files, plugins and approved tools to finish things such as a brief, a deck or a recurring update, and you approve important actions along the way. OpenAI’s examples for it are about work.

Plugins for your appsSince 9 July 2026, what used to be apps and connectors lives in the Plugin directory. Connect apps such as Gmail, Google Calendar and Outlook, then mention one with @ in a chat. ChatGPT may ask your approval before it reads from an app or takes an action.

Health, in the USHealth in ChatGPT lets people in the US connect Apple Health and supported medical records, on the web and iPhone, so its answers about sleep, activity or test results can use their own data. OpenAI says it’s there to support medical care, not replace it, and that this connected data isn’t used to train its models.

OpenAI also offers Dots, always-on agents for ongoing work on its top plans. We compare them with Meta’s Muse and others in our guide to the new AI agents.

Worth knowingAds may appear on the Free and Go plans, though not for people OpenAI identifies as under 18, and OpenAI says advertisers don’t see your chats. On personal plans, what ChatGPT reads from your connected apps can help train OpenAI’s models if “Improve the model for everyone” is on, so check that setting. Health in ChatGPT is US-only for now.

Where Retenna goes further

ChatGPT is a generalist, and a very good one. It helps when you ask, using what you tell it and what you connect. Retenna is built the other way round: an expert for each part of your life, each with a full space and real tools, all working from one living model of you and getting your week ready before you ask.

ChatGPT can talk about any of this. The difference is what it keeps and what it does without you: a wardrobe it can style from, a training plan that changes when your sleep does, a kitchen it knows, and experts that plan around each other. That’s the part of life we built Retenna for. If you’re weighing up single-subject apps instead, see the best all-in-one lifestyle apps.

The same request, handled by each

It’s Monday night and you type four words: “I got the interview!” It’s on Thursday at 10:00, 40 minutes away. Here’s what each is built to do with that.

In ChatGPT

ChatGPT can help you prepare straight away: likely questions, research on the company, a practice run out loud by voice. If Memory is on, it may already know which job this is. With Google Calendar or Outlook connected, it can look at your Thursday when you ask, and a scheduled task can remind you on Wednesday night.

What it leaves with you is the joining up. Spotting that the dentist is booked for 09:30 the same morning and deciding what moves. Remembering that you sleep badly before big days and that hard sessions leave you flat. Choosing the suit, and checking whether the 09:22 train has been running late. ChatGPT can help with each one, if you think to ask and give it the details.

In Retenna

Retenna already knows which interview, where it is, what else is in your diary, how you sleep before big days and what you feel sharpest in. So it plans the next three days around Thursday morning, across your whole life:

Monday 21:05 · 3 days ahead

Your dentist moved from Thursday at 09:30 to next Tuesday, at the same practice.

Why: it clashed with the interview.

Done for you

Tuesday 18:00 · practice

A 30-minute practice run with Jo, before your prep.

Why: Jo hires people for a living, and offered to help.

Waits for your yes · involves Jo

Tuesday 19:00 · prep

90 minutes of prep, with a one-page brief on the company and the people interviewing you.

Why: prep on Wednesday night would cost you sleep.

Done for you

Wednesday 18:00 · training

Your HIIT class swapped for a 30-minute walk.

Why: hard sessions leave you flat the next morning.

Done for you

Wednesday 21:30 · the night before

A wind-down, an alarm for 07:00, and the charcoal suit picked for the morning.

Why: you sleep badly before big days, and you feel sharpest in that suit.

Done for you

Thursday 07:30 · on the day

A light breakfast, then the 08:52 train, with 25 minutes to spare.

Why: you skip breakfast when you’re nervous, and the 09:22 was late 4 times this month.

Done for you

Sleep, training, food, clothes and travel joined up, from four words. So on Thursday, all you have to do is walk in.

Can I use both?

Yes, and they fit together well. Retenna answers everyday questions too, and because it already knows you, its answers fit your life: what to wear to Thursday’s dinner, what to cook with what’s in the fridge, whether to train after a short night. Its AI is built deeper for everyday life rather than for everything, so ChatGPT stays useful beyond it:

  • ChatGPT for broader questions and work. Explaining something outside everyday life, drafting a report, researching a big decision, a deck for Monday.
  • Retenna for your life, questions included. What to wear, train and eat this week, rest before a busy patch, every occasion and trip readied in time, shopping that buys what you need and not what you have, and the people you love remembered.

Retenna is built to connect to the calendars, email and health apps you already use, so it works from your real week. For questions beyond everyday life, ChatGPT is right there.

How Retenna gets to know you

ChatGPT’s memory helps it answer you better. Retenna’s living model is built to act for you, a little further ahead each month. It learns from what you do, what you choose and what you tell it, and every expert shares it. Here’s the same Thursday, as Retenna gets to know you:

  1. Day one It asks. “Your sister is in town on Thursday night. What would you like to do?” You plan and book it yourself.
  2. Month one It suggests. “You always make time for family. Dinner with her on Thursday at 19:00, and move your gym session to Friday lunchtime?” One tap.
  3. Month seven It decides like you. Dinner is booked at the place you both like, near her hotel, and your gym session moves to Friday lunchtime, with an Undo. The invite for your sister waits for your yes.

What it learns is written in plain words, with where it came from:

  • You feel your best in the navy blazer. From your wear notes.
  • You’re sore for two days after leg day. From your training log.
  • Big work weeks end in short nights. From 4 months of sleep.
  • Priya, your closest friend, collects ceramics. From you.

You can see, change or forget any of it, and it stops planning around what you remove. Every plan you keep, swap or undo teaches it a little more.

How you stay in charge

Your rules, in your own wordsYou choose what Retenna simply does and tells you about after, and what waits for your yes. Change a rule, and your week changes with it. Anything that involves another person always asks first, which is why the practice run with Jo waits for you.

A reason and an Undo, every timeEvery plan shows why it was made, and comes with an Undo. Undo something, and it learns from that too.

It notices what you undoKeep undoing the same kind of plan, and it says so and suggests a rule, such as asking you first next time.

And in ChatGPTControl is mostly per request. It may ask your approval before it reads from an app or acts, ChatGPT Work checks with you before important actions, and you manage Memory in settings. That suits a chat you drive yourself. Retenna is built to act on its own, so your rules come first.

How to choose

If you want answers, ideas and help with work, ChatGPT is hard to beat, and it’s free to start. If you want your outfits, training, meals, rest, plans and shopping looked after, by experts who know you and plan together, that’s Retenna.

How Retenna works

About Retenna · that’s us

Every lifestyle expert, one mind that knows you.

Retenna isn’t a chat with experts in it. It’s a complete lifestyle app, with the depth of a dedicated style app, training app, meal planner and planner in one, and a full space for every part of your life: your wardrobe, your skin, your training, your meals and kitchen, your rest, your days, occasions and trips, your shopping and the people you love. Ask in a few words and it already knows the rest: “I got the interview!” becomes the dentist moved, prep on Tuesday, a walk instead of HIIT, an early night and the 08:52.

What makes Retenna different

  1. Every expert, in one app. A stylist, a beauty and grooming expert, a personal trainer, a nutritionist, a wellbeing coach, a planner for your days, occasions and trips, and a personal shopper, each with a full space of its own. They remember what matters to the people you love, and an assistant runs through all of them.
  2. One living model of you. It learns from what you do, what you choose and what you tell it. On day one it asks; soon it suggests; in time it decides the way you would. You can see, change or forget any of it.
  3. Every expert plans together. They share one picture of your week, so a change in one reshapes the rest: leg day moves, so dinner is ready that night; brows move, so any redness settles before the party.
  4. Everything inside your rules. You choose what it simply does and what waits for your yes. Every plan comes with the reason and an Undo, and anything that involves another person always asks first.

For everyday life, questions included, it’s built to be all you need, and it works happily alongside ChatGPT for everything else. Retenna is coming to iPhone, Android and the web, and early access is open now.

Questions

Is Retenna better than ChatGPT?

They’re built for different jobs. ChatGPT is a general-purpose chat, available now and free to start, and excellent at questions, writing and research. Retenna is a complete lifestyle app, with an expert and a full space for each part of your life, built to learn you and plan ahead inside your rules. For running your everyday life, that’s what we built Retenna to do. It isn’t out yet, and early access is open now.

Is Retenna built on ChatGPT?

No. Retenna runs its own AI, built for everyday life, so it goes deeper on your style, skin, training, food, rest, plans, shopping and the people you love. It runs privately on Microsoft Azure, and your information is never used to train public AI models.

Can Retenna answer general questions?

Yes, everyday ones, and it already knows you, so “what should I wear tonight?” or “what can I cook with this?” gets an answer that fits your plans, wardrobe and kitchen. For broader questions outside everyday life, such as work, research or a subject you’re studying, a general-purpose AI like ChatGPT is still useful.

Can ChatGPT plan my outfits, meals and workouts?

Yes, when you ask. It can suggest outfits, meal plans and training plans in a chat, keep them together in a project and remind you with a scheduled task. What it doesn’t keep is a wardrobe to style from, a training log or your kitchen, or experts that plan around each other, so you keep it up to date and join things up yourself. Our guides to AI stylists, meal planners and personal trainers compare the apps built for each.

Does ChatGPT remember things about me?

Yes, if Memory is on. It keeps saved memories and can draw on your past chats. You can ask what it remembers, delete memories in settings, or use a Temporary Chat that doesn’t use or add to its memory.

What happened to ChatGPT agent mode?

OpenAI retired ChatGPT agent. Longer, multi-step jobs now go to ChatGPT Work, which is included on Free, Go, Plus and Pro, uses your files, plugins and approved tools, and asks you to approve important actions. For OpenAI’s always-on agents, see Dots in our guide to the new AI agents.

How much does ChatGPT cost?

It’s free to start. In the US, Go is $8 a month, Plus $20, and Pro $100, $200 or $500 a month. Ads may appear on Free and Go, but not on Plus or Pro.

Will Retenna do things without asking me?

Not unless you’ve said it can. You set the rules in your own words: what it can do and tell you about after, and what it must ask you first. Anything that involves another person always asks first. When it acts for you, it tells you what it did and why, with an Undo.

Is my data private with Retenna?

Your Retenna is private to you. Everything it knows is locked to your account and walled off from everyone else’s, on Microsoft Azure’s secure cloud, encrypted when stored and on the way. You can see, correct, export or delete what Retenna holds about you, including anything it has learned. If you turn learning on, it learns from what you do and tell it to personalise your own experience, and what it learns stays with your account, never used for anyone else. We never use your information to train public AI models. We never sell your information, and detailed analytics and personalised ads are optional, for adults only, and off unless you say yes.

When can I get Retenna?

Retenna is coming to iPhone, Android and the web. We haven’t set a date yet. The UK will be one of the first countries, and we’ll confirm the others nearer the time. Joining early access is free, and founding members keep founding pricing for life.
